Pilate (aka Pilot Speed)
September 8, 2007
Last night, a friend and I went to see Pilate at Ottawa’s little musical venue, Capital City Music Hall. They’re touring with Mute Math, who I had never heard any of their songs before. Pilate, as usual, was amazing – mostly because they sound great live. While they don’t sound exactly like their CD, they apparently don’t need too many voice/musical enhancers for their recordings. I really appreciate when a band sounds as good as their CD recordings when they play live. I remember hearing a live performance of The Fray at some music awards show, and I couldn’t listen to the song – the lead singer’s voice was painfully terrible. [Normally I like The Fray] And, this isn’t simply the ‘musical elitist’ in me talking. Anyway, Pilate put on a fantastic show – it’s a shame they played such a short set.
Last year, Pilate had to change their name to Pilot Speed in order to release their music in the USA. I’ll probably never stop calling them Pilate. Anyway, if you ever get a chance to listen to any of their music, it’s very much worth a listen. And, they’re worth your money as well! They’ve been around for a few years, they’re Canadian and they have great songs. I’m really surprised that their not any bigger and/or popular than they are right now. It’s almost disappointing, but as long as they keep making music, I’ll keep buying it. And you should too!

Pilate and Mute Math? That would have been a good show. I like Mute Math more than Pilate though.

Mute Math was insane – they put on a crazy show (but good), but they sound NOTHING like their album! I bought their album a few days after the show, and I was certain that the band I heard live wasn’t the same as the band on the album…
